Women’s Voices, Women’s Votes: Washington State Women’s Suffrage Centennial

An exciting new exhibit will open in February, 2009 in Tacoma
and travel statewide through June 2011

Women's Voices, Women's Votes: Washington State Women’s Suffrage Centennial 1910-2010 is not only the story of how Washington women gained the vote ten years before the nation’s Constitutional amendment. It also tells how Washington women’s votes have influenced state history, how women from various ethnic and economic groups have achieved voice in public life, and how women’s roles continue to evolve.

An exhibit needs powerful artifacts, original archival materials, photographs, and stories to make it as relevant and inclusive as possible. We request your help in searching institutional and individual collections statewide to locate prospective items representing women’s efforts through the full century. The artifacts themselves are very important to the exhibit; in addition, the stories behind these objects will bring history to life for the viewer. Consider specific women or women’s associations in your area. Are there specific objects that represent or symbolize their views and efforts?

Please email or send your ideas and stories for review at your earliest convenience. We will eventually need a clear photo of the artifact (preferably digital), its dimensions, and a brief synopsis of its story and relevance to the exhibit.

We greatly appreciate your assistance in creating a richly interactive and informative exhibit.

Sincerely,
